LAF&SF Features Hope: Science, Religion, And The Future At Unitarian Church 6 p.m. Wednesday

LAF&SF News:

Religions provide varieties of short-term, long-term, and eternal hopes and pathways to them. In our culture everyone is free to choose from these hopes or to live without them.

In this final session of the Faith and Science Forum, which is Wednesay, a panel is scheduled to share four faith perspectives on hope: Rabbi Jack Shlachter (also a scientist) will present Jewish hopes; Connon Odom (engineer and Los Alamos Church of Christ deacon) will present comments on Christian hope versus optimism from N.T. Wright (Anglican theologian); Sat Purkh Kaur Khalsa (trainer, musician, and author on women’s perspectives) will summarize Sikh views of hope; and Pastor (and licensed clinical social worker) Nicole’ Ferry (Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church) will introduce the book, “The God of Hope and the End of the World,” by John Polkinghorne (scientist-Anglican priest-theologian).

The theme of the 2017 summer series talks is “Hope: Science, Religion and the Future.” This final meeting of the summer will follow a modified format: a light supper will be served at 6 p.m. and the talks are 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., each followed by questions for the speaker. The light supper will include enchiladas and sides from El Parasol and a sheet cake from Smith’s.

Table discussions will be more limited than usual due to time constraints, ending formally at 8 p.m. These talks will be in the Fellowship Hall of the Unitarian Church (1738 N. Sage Loop.

The Los Alamos Faith and Science Forum (LAF&SF) is an incorporated 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization seeking to understand faith and science and how they fit together. The website is www.lafsf.org.
