LOE News:

The all-male International Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) finally opened the possibility of membership to ALL persons of good character, regardless of gender.

The local accapella chorus, the Lads of Enchantment (LOE), voted unanimously to join the 5 percent of BHS chapters nationwide accepting women and supporting a mixed chorus. Actually, LOE has “unofficially” had a few ladies in the chorus for three years now, leading the charge to open this close-harmony accapella art form to everyone.

“Sometimes it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission. We just did the right thing,” Director Maurice Sheppard said.

LOE rehearses at 6:45 p.m. every Thursday night at the United Church of Los Alamos. Next week, they will begin learning new music and preparing for a joint show with the Santa Fe Harmonizers the weekend of October 18-19. There will be shows in both Los Alamos and Santa Fe, with special guest quartet, Sound Check, to be flown in from Salt Lake City. Men and women who love to sing and enjoy accapella barbershop close harmony are ALL welcome to join the chorus. Show up to sing and have fun! Everyone in Harmony!
