Over the past few years, the Los Alamos Community Foundation (LACF) became aware that there were several disparate lists of charitable organizations in circulation in Los Alamos. In many cases, the lists were outdated, and/or unverified.
LACF undertook the task of creating one unified list of active nonprofit organizations in Los Alamos County that anyone in the community is welcome to use as a reference. For purposes of this list, “active” is defined as a nonprofit that is currently doing work for the purpose of advancing its mission.
Organizations on this list are 501(c)3 nonprofits, typically current in their tax filings with the IRS and have a current registration with Guidestar, Charity Navigator and/or the New Mexico Attorney General’s office.
LACF created this for:
Local philanthropists who are interested in directing support to organizations that are actively working to advance their mission in the community.
Local giving circles and service groups such as 100 Women Who Care, 100 Men Who Care, Kiwanis, Rotary and All Together Los Alamos to aid in grassroots community philanthropy.
Grantmaking organizations to use for reference, as needed, in looking to better understand the makeup of nonprofits in Los Alamos County.
Nonprofit organizations and community members looking to get connected to local resources.
“Through working on this project, we confirmed that there are more than 120 active nonprofits located in Los Alamos County,” LACF Executive Director Rachel Kizielewicz said. “We hope this list provides our community with a useful, ongoing resource to help inform local philanthropy.”
The Los Alamos nonprofit list can be found at losalamoscf.org/nonprofitlist (accessible from the “Nonprofit Services” tab on the LACF website). LACF will update the list annually to ensure ongoing accuracy.
The creation of this list was made possible by grant funding received from the McCune Foundation.
“We are excited for donors, funders and community members to embrace this list for their needs. And, as always, we welcome your feedback on it,” Kizielewicz said.
