Los Alamos Daily Post Publisher Carol A. Clark and Lifestyles Editor Bonnie Gordon were the featured speakers of the March 23 presentation at UNM-Los Alamos titled “Media Communications Training for Nonprofits.” This was the latest installment in a series of sessions for non-profits organized by the Los Alamos Community Foundation (LACF), in partnership with the LANL Foundation and UNM-LA.
Their talk highlighted the content and organization of an effective press release and the guiding principles of Associated Press or “AP Style” standards for grammatical and punctuation rules used in journalism. Clark and Gordon also provided additional useful hints and insight into the newspaper business, such as relevant deadlines, the proper inclusion of photographs and captions, and how to improve the brevity and clarity of content to result in the greatest impact.
The goal of the Los Alamos Community Foundation is to help local nonprofits become more effective in accomplishing their mission. To learn more about these training sessions and other LACF activities, visit www.losalamoscf.org for information and to sign up for future announcements.
