It’s August already, and the Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) is getting back in the swing of things. Its small but mighty team is up to everything from the return of afterschool programming on Aug. 10 to planning the summer arts and crafts fair set for Aug. 8.

Now that the year is halfway through, the LAAC wanted to take a quick moment to thank its donors. With their help, the LAAC has raised more than $21,000 in 2026. The fundraising effort is not done yet; LAAC has just passed the 1/3 mark on its $60,000 annual goal to keep the organization going with only five months remaining.
Event Details:
- ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR Aug. 8: Come on out and support local and regional artists at the Arts and Crafts Fair! Featuring more than 100 artists (old favorites and new faces alike!) from all over the state and beyond, this is an event not to miss. Come down from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, to the Fuller Lodge Lawn (2132 Central Ave).
- Summer Camp is nearly over, but afterschool art studio is returning: It’s a bittersweet moment when summer camp ends, but the return of the LAAC’s afterschool art studio program makes it a little easier to handle. Open to students in first through ninth grade, these afterschool studios start Monday, Aug. 10 and run 2:45-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday (keep your eyes out for the Friday plans soon). Sometimes students will follow along with the teacher, but they’re always free to do their own projects or continue working on previous projects. Buying a punch card for $7 per session ($5 for LAAC members) makes afternoons easy to plan, just buy a punch card 24 hours ahead of your first session and drop in. - Paint Outs at the Tub: The LAAC is excited to have plein air watercolor with Hannah returning to Bathtub Row Brewing Coop on two Saturday afternoons this August. Come meet fellow artists and do some casual painting with a pint in the sun on from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 15 and Aug. 29. Limited to art lovers age 21 and older. - Los Alamos Arts Council Presents: SPiVEY: Come on down to Bathtub Row Brewing Coop and listen to some groovy tunes with local favorite SPiVEY! Grab a brew, kick back and relax starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19. For more information: https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/events-2-1/
- Space Renovations: Thanks to hard work from Los Alamos County Facilities, LAAC is getting a fresh coat of paint for its West Wing Studios. When work is complete, LAAC will be relaunching its Community Art Programs this fall.
- Coming soon: The LAAC is gearing up for an exciting rest of 2026! In the gallery, there will be the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico opening their National Show on Friday, Sept. 11. For those missing the Beautiful Game after the World Cup, the LAAC will have a fundraiser night for Members with New Mexico United on Sept. 26. The Pajarito Literary Festival will return Oct. 2-4, look for tickets soon. And of course, Pumpkin Glow and the Scarecrow Contest are right around the corner with Affordable Arts not too far behind.
