LA Cares is a small, independent organization, providing help to the needy of Los Alamos County. Volunteers are needed to help with the upcoming food drive and ongoing food distribution activities.

LA Cares offers supplemental food assistance, with distributions on the second Thursday and Friday of every month at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2390 North Road. To receive a food box, one must register in advance by the Sunday before the distribution.

  • Thursday distributions: 6:30-7:30 p.m.; and
  • Friday distributions: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For either food or financial assistance, call 505.661.8015 at any time. Phone messages are checked Monday through Friday. Required information is identified on the answering machine: one must provide name, address, telephone number, number in family, special food needs (and/or food allergies) and need for pet food or baby items. Fresh produce, limited baked goods and frozen meats, and miscellaneous non-perishables (such as cake mixes and salad dressing) are available at the distribution in addition to the prepared box.

Non-perishable food contributions for LA Cares can be made through FUMC on the first Sunday of the month when a shopping cart placed in the foyer of the church.
