Gubernatorial candidate, Deb Haaland
From the campaign of Deb Haaland:
ALBUQUERQUE — July 22, three high ranking state senators announced their support for Deb Haaland to be the next governor of New Mexico.
Senate Judiciary Chair Joseph Cervantes, Senate Finance Chair George Munoz, and Senate Judiciary Vice Chair Antonio “Moe” Maestas join the growing list of state legislators who have endorsed Deb Haaland.
“After serving in the state legislature for over 25 years, I understand the leadership which moves our state forward and the leadership which holds us back. Deb Haaland is a proven leader who has always stood up for New Mexicans and brought people together. As governor, she will work tirelessly with our state legislature to create the safer communities our families deserve,” said Senate Judiciary Chair Joseph Cervantes.
“As Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, I am proud to endorse Deb Haaland to be the next governor of New Mexico. Because of the investments we have made—our state has made progress to support working families. We need a proven leader to continue that progress. Deb is the only candidate that has managed a multi-billion-dollar budget, and I am confident that she has the leadership to move our state forward,” said Senate Finance Chair George Munoz.
“I’m proud to endorse Deb Haaland for governor because she understands that keeping New Mexico families safe requires both action and reliability. She knows we can reduce crime by investing in police training, expanding behavioral health services, supporting crime victims, and addressing the root causes that drive violence in our communities. As governor, she will work to ensure law enforcement has the tools and expertise it needs to keep our neighborhoods safe while maintaining the trust that New Mexicans deserve,” said Senate Judiciary Vice Chair Antonio “Moe” Maestas.
“I am honored to earn the endorsement of senators who work tirelessly for communities across New Mexico,” Haaland said. “Throughout my campaign, I have heard from New Mexicans who have shared their top concerns: affordability, education, healthcare and public safety. I look forward to working with our state legislature, including the senate finance and senate judiciary committees, to deliver quality healthcare, and build an affordable New Mexico”.
Cervantes, Munoz, and Maestas join the growing list of state legislators who have announced their support and endorsed Haaland in the race for governor including: House Speaker Javier Martinez, House Majority Floor Leader Reena Szczepanski, House Appropriations and Finance Chair Nathan Small, and Senate Pro Tempore Mimi Stewart who trust Haaland to lower costs, improve education, increase public safety, and expand healthcare.
Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with families, workers, and community leaders to hear their concerns and share her vision for a safer, stronger, and healthier state. As Secretary of the Interior Department, Haaland managed over 70,000 employees and an $18 billion-dollar annual budget.
