Just 13 Days To Shop Small And Win Big In Los Alamos And White Rock!

COUNTY News:

As the holiday season kicks off, shoppers in Los Alamos and White Rock will have an opportunity to start their holiday shopping with special deals at local businesses on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24.

Shoppers also can compete in a scavenger hunt for a chance to win local gift cards, as well as get entered into a Los Alamos National Bank Blue Bucks cash-raffle drawing for every $25 spent at participating businesses. The raffle begins Nov. 23, with the scavenger hunt beginning Nov. 24. Both run through Dec. 6, with winners being announced Saturday evening, Dec. 8 at the Tree Lighting at Ashley Pond, immediately following the WinterFest Holiday Lights Parade.

Small Business Saturday is an annual celebration in conjunction with the national promotion started by American Express to support local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Started in Los Alamos in 2010 by local retailer Cyndi Wells, owner of Pet Pangaea, the event has grown over the years. This year, the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce and Los Alamos MainStreet are partnering with LANB and Pet Pangaea to support local businesses.

“Saturday, Nov. 24 is the main day to come out and support our local businesses,” Chamber Director Ryn Herrmann said. “But that is just the beginning of 13 days of the scavenger hunt and the raffle ticket giveaways with purchases. We hope these promotions will extend the idea of shopping local and make a big difference for our small businesses this holiday season.”

The Chamber Scavenger Hunt game using the GooseChase app will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 and run through 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Participants will earn points by completing “missions” at participating local businesses. With funds generously donated by LANB, the Chamber will be purchasing gift card prizes from as many participating businesses as possible.

Shoppers can enter a ticket in the LANB Blue Buck raffle for every $25 spent at a participating business. Each raffle ticket offers a chance to win from several cash prizes, ranging from $250 to a grand prize of $1000 in cash. The local business that gives away the winning ticket also will win $500. The LANB Blue Bucks raffle promotion begins Friday, Nov. 23 and runs through Thursday, Dec. 6.

“We have some great incentives this year for the public to shop small and keep dollars in Los Alamos and White Rock,” Los Alamos MainStreet Director Lauren McDaniel said. “Before going online or off-the-hill to shop this holiday season, I urge everyone to consider all the special, unique gifts that can be found right here in our community. It’s these types of purchases, and a commitment to shopping local, that can make a big difference to our family-owned businesses.”

Participating businesses in Los Alamos and White Rock offer a wide range of merchandise. Not only do shoppers have the convenience and personal experience of shopping in-person, but by taking part in Small Business Saturday, they’re also supporting the local economy and fostering a tight-knit community.

In order for the local economy to flourish, local businesses need community support to grow and expand. Small Business Saturday seeks to remind community members to shop local for their holiday needs and to help Los Alamos grow together.

“Every year, this is a favorite event of both locals and visitors, as it’s a chance to see what Los Alamos is really all about,” Herrmann said. “There are several stores to choose from with a wide variety of gift options, so there’s something for every person on your shopping list. In addition, stores will be offering sales and incentives, making it the perfect time to shop. We encourage everyone to come support businesses this Small Business Saturday. Don’t miss this chance to shop small and win big!”
