SKI News:
DURANGO, Colo. ― Ski Season is right around the corner! Today marks 100 days until the kick off of ski season for both Purgatory Resort and Sipapu Ski Resort, which open for the 2018/2019 season Saturday, Nov. 17.
El Nino is forecast for the 2018/2019 season, which means more powder days! The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is currently predicting El Nino conditions for this winter, which tend to produce greater than average snowfall across the southern Rockies, benefiting southern Colorado and New Mexico.
Sipapu Ski Resort
For the past 16 years, Sipapu has been the first resort in New Mexico to open for ski season. On opening day, Sipapu will feature Sierra Nevada with prize baskets for the first skiers in lift line and beer samples and other giveaways for guests 21 and over. Sipapu also starts its Saturday open mic nights, plus other events.
“The whole team at Sipapu is excited for ski season and welcoming our guests for the Thanksgiving week,” stated John Paul Bradley, mountain manager of Sipapu Ski Resort. “Our crews are currently getting our mountain ready for winter. We’re busy with lift, trail and snowcat maintenance. We’re ready to get our snow guns in place in our quest to once again be the first resort to open in New Mexico.”
Guests can start booking their winter vacations, including reservations for the three new Riverside Cabins at Sipapu. For details, visit SipapuNM.com.
Sipapu offers a free season pass for those in fifth grade and younger, which includes unlimited access to Pajarito, Sipapu, and Hesperus Ski Area near Durango. Sipapu offers family-friendly events, like February Fun Fest, plus a week-long kids’ day camp, the Yeti Club in March.
