Library News:

Santa Fe poet Jon Davis will read from his work at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Upstairs Rotunda at Mesa Public Library.

Davis is the author of four full-length poetry collections—Improbable Creatures (Grid Books, 2017), Preliminary Report (Copper Canyon Press, 2010), Scrimmage of Appetite (University of Akron, 1995), and Dangerous Amusements (Ontario Review Press, 1987); five chapbooks; and Heteronymy: An Anthology (LaNana Creek Press, 2016), a limited-edition letterpress book in collaboration with the artist Jamison Chas Banks.

Davis also co-translated Iraqi poet Naseer Hassan’s Dayplaces (Tebot Bach Press, 2017). A new collection of poems, The Many-Body Problem, is complete, as well as a collection of short stories, In It for the Short Haul. He has received a Lannan Literary Award in Poetry, the Lavan Prize from the Academy of American Poets, the Off the Grid Poetry Prize, and two NEA Fellowships. He directs the MFA in Creative Writing at the Institute of American Indian Arts, where he has taught since 1990.

Davis has developed several personae, which he assumes when writing and reading his poetry. Each persona maintains a distinct style and uses a separate, preferred form throughout the poems. Davis often appears as his alter-ego Chuck Calabreze.

The Los Alamos County Library System often hosts poetry readings by prominent local and regional authors. In January, poets Jane Lin and Lauren Camp will be joined by others as they read on the topic of immigration, from the anthology “Two Countries – US Daughters and Sons of Immigrant Parents.”

Poetry readings are sponsored by Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries. Mesa Public Library is at 2400 Central Ave., in downtown Los Alamos. For more information about Library events, call 505.662.8250 or visit the Events tab on the Library’s catalog page at www.losalamoslibrary.org.
