It’s not too late to sign up for the free parenting workshop taking place Saturday, Nov. 5 at UNM-Los Alamos.

The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) and UNM-Los Alamos are teaming up again to offer Parenting University: Tool Up for Parenting 2016. This workshop is designed to provide parents and caregivers with the practical information that they need to raise healthy and well-balanced children, learn about community resources, and interact with other families of school-aged children.

Diane Marasciulo will present True Colors Parenting & the Harmonious Home. In this session, participants will explore the True Colors personality temperament model to determine color spectrums for themselves and their family members. The results will help the audience to identify effective parenting styles, understand family dynamics, deepen relationships, and enhance communication, self-discipline, and self-esteem. Marasciulo is a nationally certified school psychologist, who has extensive experience working with children and families.

In another session, Dr. Scott Carroll will present a broad overview of mental health in children. He will discuss how mental illness is diagnosed and treated in children, address disorders that are more prevalent in children, cover emerging treatments, and let parents know when they should be concerned and seek professional help. Dr. Carroll is an associate professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the UNM School of Medicine.
