Jack Ammerman is the winner of the 2018 Constitution Day Poster Contest. President Dawn Voss of the Los Alamos Federated Republican Women presented Ammerman with a $100 cash prize.
The award ceremony was held Sunday at Urban Park during the Constitution Day Picnic sponsored by the Republican Party of Los Alamos.
Ammerman is an eighth grade student and is homeschooled. He is the son of Kristina Kershner and Curtt Ammerman. Describing the ideas expressed in his winning poster, Ammerman wrote: “My poster represents some of the most important freedoms addressed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The rights shown are the Right to Bear Arms, Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion. I placed the Right to Bear Arms figure in the center because that right allows us to protect all of our other rights. By doing this project, I have learned a lot about our rights and freedoms, and I want to thank the Los Alamos Federated Republican Women for giving me this opportunity.”
During the past four years the Los Alamos Federated Republican Women have sponsored a Constitution Day Contest for students in grades fourth through 12th who reside in or attend school in Los Alamos County. Constitution Day, Sept. 17, celebrates the U.S. Constitution and the freedoms it protects.
The Constitution Day Contest is designed to challenge students to learn more about the U.S. Constitution and to express creatively and thoughtfully the ideas embodied in it. In the past the contest challenged students to write an essay. This year the contest guidelines asked students to design an original, handmade poster symbolizing the freedoms/principles expressed in the U.S. Constitution, featuring any aspect of the Constitution including the Bill of Rights and Amendments.
The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women congratulate Ammerman on an excellent and attractive poster expressing well-thought-out ideas.
Ammerman’s poster is displayed at the Republican Headquarters at 1650 Trinity Dr., Suite 102 (15th & Trinity).
