The Los Alamos Museum of Art kicks off its Inside Arts series on PAC 8 with an interview with local artists Petr and Louise Jandacek.
Meeting Petr and Louise, individuals soon realize that their story has ever expanding chapters. Their energy, curiosity and creative spirit seem to have no limits. Arriving in this area in the late 1970s, Petr and Louise built the first and possibly only geodesic dome house in White Rock and filled it with children, art and a continuously growing number of friends.
Petr taught art for 38 years to generations of students at Los Alamos Public Schools.
“Little kids would come up to me and say, ‘Mr. J, you used to teach my grandma,’” Petr said.
Both Petr and Louise are accomplished artists. Louise works in multiple mediums including oil and watercolor painting and Petr turns almost everything into art.
Working with wood and its natural grains and textures is Petr’s favorite.
“I virtually never paint wood,” he said. “It would be like decoupaging the Sistine Chapel; you better not do it.”
Petr and Louise are world travelers; at last count they have been to 28 countries and art is a major attraction on their journeys and an inevitable influence on their own work.
PAC 8 will broadcast the Los Alamos Museum of Art’s Inside Arts series starting Sunday, Feb. 16 and will air the series weekly at 8:30 p.m. Sundays, 4 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 p.m. Thursdays.
