Independent, Minor & Write-In Candidates Filing Day Thursday!

The filing day for Independent, Minor and Write-In candidates is Thursday, June 26.

June 26 – Independent and Minor Candidates Filing Day with petitions for the General Election
 
Candidates must file between 9 a.m. and 5.p.m. in the County Clerks Office, Room 240,  (Municipal Building – 2nd floor)
 
Declaration Form; Vital Form; and Petitions are required. There is no filing fee. 

Number of petition signatures required: 3 percent of 8,712 total votes for 2010 Governor = 261

(Nominating petitions for … county office shall be signed by a number of voters equal to at least three percent of the total number of votes cast in the … county, as the case may be. (The basis of percentage for the total number of votes cast in each instance referred to in this section shall be the total vote cast for governor at the last preceding general election at which a governor was elected.)

June  26 – Write-In Filing Day for General Election

Candidates must file between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the County Clerks Office, Room 240, (Municipal Building – 2nd floor)

Declaration Form; and Vital Form are required. There is no filing fee.

No unopposed write-in candidate shall have an election certified unless the candidate receives at least the number of write-in votes equal to two percent of the total vote in the … county in which the candidate seeks election that were cast for governor in the last preceding general election in which a governor was elected. ( 2 percent of 8712 total votes for 2010 Governor = 174)

Sept. 2 – Candidate Withdrawal Deadline 
Last day any candidate can withdraw from the General Election.
 
Sept. 20 – Federal & Overseas Voter Absentee Ballot Mailings
Those who have requested a Federal/Overseas Absentee Ballot, the Clerk’s Office will begin mailing them Sept. 20th.

Oct. 7 – Voter Registration Books Close at 5 p.m.
Residents who are not registered, or have moved, need to fill out a voter registration form.

Voter registration forms are available at the County Clerk’s Office, State of New Mexico Motor Vehicle Field Office and the Los Alamos and White Rock Libraries. Please return the completed form to the County Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. Oct. 7.

Oct. 7 – Absentee Voting (by mail and in person) begins
Those who have requested an Absentee Ballot by mail, our office will begin processing on Oct. 7. To request an Absentee Ballot by mail, fill out this form, and return via email, fax, mail or in person.

Tuesday, Oct. 7 through Friday, Oct. 10
Monday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 17   
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Oct. 18 – Alternate (Early Voting) begins

Oct. 24 – County Clerk Proclamation Publication
 
Oct. 31 – Last day to mail an Absentee Ballot 
 
Nov. 1 – All Early Voting Ends at all locations  (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
Nov. 4 – Election Day – Vote Centers are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.      
Registered voters of Los Alamos County registered in any precinct may vote at any of the following Vote Centers on Election Day:
  • White Rock Fire Station
  • LAC Municipal Building – 1st floor, Boards & Commission Room #110
  • LAC Golf Course – Multi Purpose Room
Vote Centers are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
