Inaugural Veterans Poker Run Begins At Noon Today

COMMUNITY News:

Anyone who is interested in helping local military veterans’ organizations while riding through Northern New Mexico’s beautiful scenery is invited to participate in the inaugural Veterans Poker Run beginning at noon today at Santa Fe Harley-Davidson, located at 4360 Rodeo Road. Registration starts at 11 a.m. and the cost is $20.

Poker Runs typically involve motorcycles stopping at pre-selected destinations to pick up a poker card. After retrieving all the potential cards, the riders meet at the final destination (VFW Post 2951 in Santa Fe) where a panel of judges select the top three poker hands and award prizes. This year’s prizes include: (1) two night stay at Buffalo Thunder; (2) four rounds of golf at Towa Golf Course; (3) over $100 in gift certificates. As mentioned, this event typically features motorcycle riders, but for this event, participants can utilize automobiles and recreational vehicles.

The following five locations are the designated stops for this year. Additional playing cards can be purchased for $10. Door prizes will be awarded at each stop. Reminder that all participants must arrive by 6 p.m. at the final destination.

1) Santa Fe Harley Davidson (4360 Rodeo Rd, Santa Fe)
2) American Legion Post 1 (1601 Berry Ave, Santa Fe)
3) Buffalo Thunder Resort (20 Buffalo Thunder Trail, Santa Fe)
4) VFW Post 8874 (1793 Deacon St., Los Alamos)
5) VFW Post 2951 (307 Montezuma Ave., Santa Fe)

The proceeds benefit local chapters of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Healing America Heroes. For more information, call Johanna Sandoval, VFW Post 2951, 505.983.9045.
