COMMUNITY News:
On March 18, 2020, Lukas Lucero passed away at age 29. Lukas was the son of Marco and Sandy Lucero, brother of Lorinda Nelson, grandson of Cruzita Trujillo and Faustin Trujillo, owner of rescue dog Tardis and born and raised in Los Alamos.Â
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, family and friends have been unable to come together and celebrate the life of Lukas in person.
Lukas’ cousin, Victoria Gonzales-Dawson has organized a fundraiser as an opportunity to honor Lukas for his 30th birthday Aug. 9. This event will be a tribute to the adventurer and animal lover that he was. Anyone who knew Lukas remembers his great big smile and love for family. He was one of a kind and always up for an adventure.Â
Let’s give 30 for Lukas’ 30th. Break up the 30 miles with friends and or family, or space them over a few days. … and or donate to this great cause.Â
All donations from the event will go to Paws and Stripes, an organization close to Lukas’s heart for both their service to U.S. veterans as well as rescued shelter dogs. Paws and Stripes is a non-profit that brings together shelter dogs with veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Military Sexual Trauma or Traumatic Brain Injuries. Paws and Stripes coordinates service dog training and matching dogs with veterans saving two lives. There is no set or minimum donation, give what you can.Â
Marco and Lorinda will hike Brazos Mountain, which is a 3,000-foot climb to 12,000 feet in elevation. The median slope is 70 degrees!
