IFA News:
The International Folk Art Market is pleased to invite the community to the second in its Folk Art Connections Series, a rare and immersive experience: a hands-on quilting workshop and pop-up sale led by renowned textile historian and curator Anitha N. Reddy.
Folk Art Connections is a new year-round initiative that brings International Folk Art Market artists to Santa Fe for events at various times outside of July’s annual folk-art market. The series is produced by marketing director, Diego Munoz, who executed his first event in December 2024 and hopes to build capacity and visibility for IFAM artists year-round.
In this three-hour workshop, participants will explore the art of Siddi Kawandi quilting, a vibrant and deeply rooted tradition from Karnataka, India. More than a quilting class, the workshop is an act of unlearning—an opportunity to set aside rigid stitching techniques and embrace intuitive, slow stitching guided by instinct and tradition.
Don’t miss the pop-up sale featuring exquisite quilts for purchase crafted by the Siddi-Kavand group.

PARTICIPATE:
As we prepare for this special IFAM Connections event with Anitha N. Reddy, we invite you to contribute meaningfully—by donating small fabric scraps that will become part of this immersive experience!
Donate 2-3 inch scrap textiles for the Siddi Kawandi quilting workshop. These small pieces of fabric will help participants piece together quilts using the intuitive, hand-stitched techniques of Karnataka’s Siddi artisans, creating a collective work of art rooted in tradition.
How to Donate:
- Drop off your fabric 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, at IFAM Center | 620 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, NM
- Now through March 15, 2025
- We welcome cotton, linen, and lightweight fabrics in bold colors and patterns to enhance the richness of the quilting process.
