House Speaker Brian Egolf Addresses State Reopening

House Speaker Brian Egolf

From the Office of House Speaker Brian Egolf:

SANTA FE — “New Mexico is now open! Very rarely in our history are there times when a single event significantly shapes our collective lives and forces us all to come together like the past year of this pandemic.

All over our great state, New Mexicans made the choice that they would work as one to defeat COVID-19 and save lives.

Today, all of that hard work and dedication to the health and safety of our families, friends, and neighbors has paid off. Thanks to you, New Mexico has achieved nation-leading vaccination rates and we are now fully and safely reopened.

The last 16 months have been difficult, and I want to take a moment to remember the lives of our lost loved ones and keep their families in our prayers. Let us also recognize the personal sacrifices our frontline heroes and healthcare workers made to support and care for us, all throughout those dark days of the pandemic.

I also want to thank Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham for her leadership and exceptionally hardworking team. Their unwavering commitment to protecting the public’s health and placing faith in science to make the right public health choices saved countless lives. Without that leadership, I fear our state would’ve been subjected to a tremendous and unnecessary loss of life.

Recovery, recovery, recovery can now be our main focus in the days ahead. As a state, we already have our sights set on rebuilding an economy that works for all hardworking New Mexicans and creating opportunities that support our families for generations to come. Today, let us all be proud to call ourselves New Mexican.”
