Home Renewal Program Accepts Applications Until Aug. 31

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s Community Development Department and the Los Alamos Housing Partnership (LAHP) is still interested in receiving additional applications for consideration for funding under Cycle 5 of the Home Renewal Program.

The application process opened July 1. Residents who income qualify and require financial assistance to make repairs or improvements to their homes are encouraged to apply for this subsidized loan program. Homeowners are not required to make payments unless the home is sold or vacated.

Only four applications have been received to date, and the LAHP is hoping more residents will explore whether or not their home project might qualify and consider applying for funds before the deadline of Aug. 31.

Examples of projects that may qualify for funding from the Home Renewal Program include window and door replacement, unsafe deck and porch repair or replacement, exterior siding and stucco repair/replacement, lead-based paint, asbestos and mold remediation, boiler replacement, roof repair or replacement, and accessibility improvements.

Interested applicants should visit the LAHP website at www.losalamoshousingpartnership.org to download an informational brochure, an application and checklist. The website has other information about the program including Policies and Procedures, and Housing Rehabilitation Standards. Hard copies of the brochure and application materials may be picked up at LAHP.

Interested applicants must arrange to meet with LAHP Director Steve Brugger before they begin filling out the application form. LAHP staff will review applications and contact applicants to discuss whether or not they qualify based on income, property and project eligibility criteria, and loan underwriting standards. If an applicant is determined to be eligible, LAHP staff will work with the homeowner on a project funding plan and scope of work, and will solicit bids from a pool of qualified contractors.

After the cycle closes on August 31, LAHP will package all eligible applications to submit to a Loan Review Committee. The program is funded by the County. Applications will be prioritized according to the criteria in the Policies and Procedures manual. If funding requests exceed the amount of funding available, projects will be selected based on these established and documented priorities.
