SPORTS News:

The los Alamos Hilltoppers baseball team opened its 2017 season Saturday with a doubleheader against the Sandia Prep.

The Sundevils are coming to this game after a very successful 2016 season, while the Toppers are bringing a young team to the opener.

The first game for the Toppers was a good start but not a winner, losing 2-4. The second game was quite different, as the Sundevils struggled with their pitching.

The Toppers took full advantage of the situation by scoring 3 runs in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings followed by 7 in the 4th and 5 in the 5th. The game was shortened by the mercy rule with a final score of 21-7.

For their first outing, the Toppers played very well, in spite of opening day jitters.
