Los Alamos High Flyers Gymnastics picked up another Team Trophy last weekend when it won third place at the Gravitational Invitational meet in Albuquerque.

Teams from as far away as El Paso to the south and Taos to the north competed in Levels 2 thru 10. Team scores are tallied by adding the points of the top three gymnasts in the Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor events.

The High Flyers level 2 team scored 127.6 points, which averages more than 9 points for each gymnast.

“It was an effort of the whole team,” Coach David Vosburgh said. “We used the individual event scores from seven of the 11 girls we took to Albuquerque. When our first girl scored a 9.15 on Bars, it inspired the others to turn in their best performances of the year.”

Several gymnasts joined the 9.0 club at High Flyers. The only way to join the club is to get a score of 9.0 or higher in a USAG sanctioned gymnastics competition.

Gymnasts who received 9s this week include:

  • Ashley Hammond on Bars and Floor
  • Violet Henderson on Bars and Beam
  • Anna Kirkland on Bars and Floor
  • Megan Martinez on Floor
  • Elizabeth Merril on Bars
  • Cammie Preset on Beam
  • Emily Smith on Vault and Beam
  • Emily Worley on Beam
  • Sarah Worley on Beam
  • Kylie Johnson on Bars
  • Gianna Benelli on Floor
  • Jillian Puckett on Floor

The High Flyers Level 2 team will travel Feb.14 to Belen for a meet and at this point has 10 gymnasts qualified for the State Championships at the end of February. The level 3 and 4 teams will travel Feb.7 to Albuquerque for a competition and has 15 gymnasts qualified for the State Championships in March.
