High Flyers Gymnastics in Los Alamos is moving into a larger, taller facility Saturday at 1900 Diamond Dr. in the Pueblo Complex.
“Our previous location at 15th and Central was just too short and too narrow,” Director David Vosburgh said. “Our old space had a 10-foot tall ceiling and our new facility has a 15-foot tall ceiling and double the square footage. We’ll have room for legal, full sized equipment now.”
Years ago, the new facility housed the school cafeteria, he said.
“What’s also fun about our new location is that back in the 1970s and 1980s, Los Alamos High School actually had a gymnastics class. Two of our coaches, Lesley Puckett and Jenni Gaffney were on that team,” David Vosburgh said.
High Flyers offers a daily after-school program with activities such as active gym time, homework/study, and crafts/board games supervised by adult instructors. Daily and weekly enrollment is available for year-round fun and fitness for Los Alamos-area youth.
Classes are designed with age appropriate activities and goals. Suggested age guidelines give parents a choice of classes based on their child’s development and needs. Coed, half-hour classes are offered for the youngest students, with longer class times for older children.
Class focuses on the development of a progressive set of skills, based on USA Gymnastics-approved guidelines. Instructors provide fun activities and drills designed to help students gain confidence, strength and flexibility while maintaining safe and proper technique.
