JJAB News:

It is hard to believe that summer is already over! As the weather starts to cool off and we head into the autumn months, JJAB will again hold a Winter Clothing Drive, where weather-appropriate clothing is purchased for youth in need.

JJAB is asking the community for financial donations that will be used to purchase winter clothing for youth attending all LAPS schools. JJAB Resource Specialists will work with their client families, school counselors, and community organizations to gather student needs. JJAB will then purchase, as finances allow, the desired items and deliver them directly to the youth.

Items frequently needed and purchased through the Winter Clothing Drive include coats, snow boots, gloves, scarves, and hats.

Since this program’s inception in 2020, JJAB has served 205 youth with winter gear. Inflation has financially impacted many local families, and an increase in requests is anticipated for this year.

When asked why this project is essential, Dianna Reichelt, JJAB Program Manager, shared, “The Winter Clothing Project is important to our community for many reasons – the first thing that comes to mind is dignity and equality. Every child deserves to be warm and comfortable in the winter. Through our fundraising, we can give youth access to winter clothing that is warm, fits, and is in style. Providing access to these necessities allows families to have extra funds to purchase groceries, pay bills, or even put gas in their cars. This project means peace of mind and stability and ensures our youth know their community supports them.”

To ensure the winter clothing is available before the weather gets too cold, JJAB is asking to receive financial donations by Oct. 6, 2023.

There are two ways community members can donate:

  1. Make an online donation at www.losalamosjjab.com
  2. Mail a check, payable to Los Alamos JJAB and note on the check “winter clothing drive”.

Checks may be mailed to Los Alamos JJAB, P.O. Box 4716, Los Alamos, NM 87547.

All funds received will go directly to purchasing the winter clothing. Clothing items will be distributed by the end of October. Questions? Contact JJAB at 505.709.8125 or info@losalamosjjab.com.
