School Board Approves Mental Health Design Team’s Recommendations

The Los Alamos Public School Board voted unanimously Tuesday evening to implement the recommendations of the LAPS Mental Health Design Team.

Speaking to a full house at the meeting, a stunning report by the LAPS Mental Health Design Team initiated their presentation by expressing how, “A health community is not one without problems. A health community has problems and mobilizes resources to navigate through them.”

The flu season will likely peak in February in most parts of the United States, according to a model developed by scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Using historical data, a mathematical representation of how flu spreads through a population, and data for the current flu season provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the scientists were able to create a probabilistic model forecasting the flu season.

Ludmil Alexandrov, of the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory, made strong points this week in the journal Science about the basic formation of human cancers, winning a 2015 Science & SciLifeLab Prize, on “Understanding the Origins of Human Cancer.”

“I have always been passionate about solving complex genomics puzzles and applying my skills towards better understanding the mechanism underlying cancer development,” said Alexandrov, Oppenheimer Fellow at Los Alamos.

NMDOH To Host Walk-In Flu Shot Clinics

SANTA FE  The New Mexico Department of Health’s Northeast Regional Public Health Offices will be hosting flu shot clinics.
No appointments are necessary for the dates, times and locations listed below.
There is no charge to those attending the clinics, but everyone should bring their insurance card, including Medicaid or Medicare, with them.   
Everyone six months of age and older should get a flu vaccine each flu season, especially people in the following groups because they are at high risk of having serious flu-related complications or because they live with or care for
