WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a  letter sent Tuesday to the CEO of the pharmaceutical company Mylan, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall (D-New Mexico) joined 19 senators in expressing his serious concerns about the company’s recent significant price hikes for the EpiPen Auto-Injector.

The Los Alamos Retirement Community/LARC, Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Community and Aspen Ridge Assisted Living are celebrating Sept. 11-17, both National Assisted Living Week, and National Appreciation Week for Housekeeping, Laundry and Maintenance Employees.

Events throughout the week will be a special opportunity to bring together our residents, families and employees to recognize the unique individuals that reside at Aspen Ridge Lodge, Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Community and the staff members that deliver care every day.

There was a time, not too long ago, when patients who had to be transported from Los Alamos to hospitals in Albuquerque took an hour and 29 minutes to get there.

Now, with Classic Air Medical providing helicopter service to the area, the same trip takes just 26 minutes. That reduction in time can be a life-saver.

'A Matter Of Balance' Class Begins Sept. 12

The next “Matter of Balance” fall prevention class begins at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12 in the lower level classroom at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. “Matter of Balance” is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. Participants will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, exercise to increase strength and balance. All participants will receive a workbook to keep.

An estimated 53 percent of New Mexico HealthCare.gov consumers could still purchase a plan for less than $75 per month, even if all final rates were to increase by double digits

Los Alamos Clients Get Fit At TopNotch Pilates

Sabrina  Svard opened her Los Alamos facility, TopNotch Pilates, in April 2016 and tripled its size  June 1. The studio now occupies a spacious suite on the second floor at 127 East Gate Dr.

Svard also teaches Pilates in Santa Fe and has taught in Los Alamos prior to opening TopNotch.

“My clients in Los Alamos urged me to open a studio here,” Svard said.

Prior to moving to Santa Fe three years ago, Svard owned a studio in New England.

Alert: Multi-agency Emergency Exercise At LAMC Today

ALERT:

This is a reminder there is a multi-agency Emergency Exercise today at Los Alamos Medical Center.

If you see a lot of activity, such as emergency vehicles and the like, it is because of the Emergency Exercise.

LAMC is working with LANL, Los Alamos County, and emergency responders as part of our work to be wholly prepared in case of a true crisis.

Should there be demand for real patient care that requires ED staff attention, the exercise at LAMC will be suspended to care for patients.
