A community effort is underway to collect hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and men’s socks for distribution during the Christmas season to shelters in Santa Fe and Espanola.
Items donated should be in new or like new condition, can be for any age or gender, and are being collected at the Los Alamos Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1967 18th St., in Los Alamos.
The best times for dropping off these items are during the Creche Show this weekend including 1-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday or either of the next two Sundays, Dec. 7 or Dec. 14.
A Christmas tree with scarves, gloves and hats draped across its branches is located directly inside the main entrance to the church, and donated items can be left on or next to the tree. Donations must be made by Dec. 14 to insure their timely delivery to shelters.
