Hard Work Over Summer Paying Off For Hilltoppers

The girls soccer team won Thursday against Moriarty. The football team also won their opener Friday against the Pojoaque Elks 19-13. In Wednesday’s game, the Los Alamos boys soccer team, which is ranked number 1 in the state in class 5A, upheld their lofty ranking with a 3-0 win over the St. Michael’s Horsemen. The Hilltoppers went up one – nil in the 6th minute on a goal by senior D C Kim. Kim took a pass fro Eric Burnside and drove it into the left corner of the net for the goal. In the 17th minute sophomore Levon Wiggens stole the ball fro St. Michael’s and drove down the right side and then shot a cross to Co-Captain Eric Burnside. Burnside’s shot hit the left goal post and bounced into the back of the net for a 2-nil lead for the Hilltoppers. In the 46th minute Sophomore Tristen Semelsberger’s goal  make the score 3-nil after a a hustling effort near the left corner.  The Topper had 10 corner kicks in the match to none for St. Michael’s. Horseman goalie, Connor Burnham had 10 saves. Hilltopper goalie Seth Hailey was credited with 5 saves. The next action for the Hilltoppers is a trip to Albuquerque this Friday to face the always tough St. Pius Sartans. Photo by Kurt Steinhaus
