Republican Rep. Jim Hall, candidate for House Dist. 43 was unable to attend the Santa Fe League of Women Voters forum in Santa Fe Wednesday.

“I notified the League Monday that an unforeseen personal issue came up that I had to attend to and informed them that I would not be able to make the forum,” Hall said this morning.

He pointed out that Richard Garcia was unable to attend Tuesday’s Los Alamos Kiwanis debate and had a representative substitute for her.

“The League does not allow substitutes so I provided them with some of my material … that was the best I could do under the circumstances,” Hall said.

Wednesday’s League forum was the final of this election season and the fact that Hall did not participate caused Democratic challenger Stephanie Garcia Richard to issue a press release publicly inviting him to a final debate before the Nov. 6 election.

“With the dynamics of this race shifting so drastically because of third party influence, I think it would be valuable to have one more opportunity before Election Day to speak to voters and debate my opponent in an open forum,” Garcia Richard said. “That is why I am asking Jim to join me in a third and final forum and ask the residents of HD 43 to help me encourage him to do the same.”

Hall has agreed to the invitation, telling the Los Alamos Daily Post this morning, “I welcome a debate with Stephanie any time.

Editor’s note: The Los Alamos Daily Post will publish the date and time of the final public debate as soon as it is established.
