Habitat For Humanity Happenings

COMMUNITY News:

Help us help others. Habitat for Humanity – Espanola Valley & Los Alamos is gearing up to build another affordable house for a family in Espanola. Even prior to breaking ground at the construction site in April, Habitat EVLA will be busy in Los Alamos and Espanola raising money and hosting events.

No matter what teams you root for or against in the SuperBowl, come do it at the Pajarito Brewpub Sunday, Feb. 5. Help Habitat for Humanity – Espanola Valley & Los Alamos raise money for its 2017 Habitat Build. Habitat EVLA will receive 10 percent of proceeds from all food and beverages ordered during the game. With nine screens available, all of them showing the game, you can have your own Super Bowl party at Pajarito Brewpub.

Patrick Mockler Woods, Pajarito Brewpub co-owner and Habitat for Humanity supporter who has banged nails on previous builds, will have 30 beers on tap plus 52 in the bottle. The kitchen will be turning out mounds of wings and salsa with chips. A selection of wines and locally produced hard ciders also will be available. Kids are okay. Root beer from New Mexico’s own Sierra Blanca Brewery will be on tap.

High school students 16 years or older looking for community service hours can volunteer for Habitat’s “A Brush with Kindness” Saturday, March 18 in Espanola. Spend a day helping an elderly or disabled person clean up their yard or make simple exterior repairs. Contact Victoria Erhart, Habitat EVLA volunteer coordinator, at victoria@habitatevla.org to request an application.

Habitat EVLA is now part of Smith’s Community Rewards program. Hook your Smith’s Rewards Card to #18863 and help Habitat EVLA raise much needed funds.

Save your used printer and toner cartridges. Habitat EVLA recycles them through www.fundingfactory.com. Look for drop off boxes at KRSN radio station and around town. Help us help the earth by keeping e-trash out of the landfill. Keep track of our funding campign through the Funding Factory website.

Other fund raising events planned will include a wine and cheese tasting party, a March Madness party, a Mother’s Day Women’s Build in May and a Father-Son Build in June in honor of Father’s Day. Habitat EVLA offers a volunteer opportunity to fit just about any need or skill set. For information, contact Victoria Erhart at 505.423.4982 or victoria@habitatevla.org.
