BANDELIER News:

Thousands of people around the nation will gather to take part in a one-night event called the “Great American Backyard Campout” Saturday, June 22.

Join the staff at Bandelier National Monument for food and fun activities 6-9 p.m. at Juniper Campground. Visitors are encouraged to camp in Juniper Campground or arrive just to participate in the event.

Activities include:

  • 6-7 p.m. – Did you say free food? Hot dogs, chips and beverages will be grilled by monument staff and offered free of charge. Grab a dog and a seat at the Juniper Campground amphitheater.
  • 7-8 p.m. – After dinner, join a park ranger for a sunset stroll on the Tyuonyi Overlook Trail. This is an easy flat two mile roundtrip walk.
  • 8:30- 9 p.m. – Can you imagine riding a mule or having to hike into Frijoles Canyon? Visiting and camping in the park has changed drastically since the early 1900s. Join a park ranger for a trip back in time to discover some of the hardships and highlights of visiting the monument years ago.

Bandelier encourages participants to set up camp for the night at Juniper Campground to enjoy these activities. Campsites are $12 per night or $6 with a Senior or Access Pass.
