LAPS News:

Gov. Susanna Martinez visited Piñon Elementary School in White Rock Monday to award a grand prize to 2nd grader Rocco Del Mauro for his participation in the Summer Reading Challenge.

Over the summer, Del Mauro read 12 books and submitted an essay on “What I love about New Mexico”. The Governor’s visit was a secret and a surprise for Del Mauro.

In addition, each principal will be planning a school celebration to recognize every student who participated in the summer reading program. Participants will receive $50 in Chamber Checks.

Los Alamos had about 80 student participants, which is more than 10 percent of the statewide total.
