Governor and Comcast Kick-Off Year Three of Broadband Access Program

Governor Susana Martinez

STATE News:

ALBUQUERQUE ─ Gov. Susana Martinez joined former NFL coach Tony Dungy and Comcast officials Thursday morning to announce the continuation of a program that provides low-cost broadband internet access to qualified families with school-age children.

The program, now in its third year, has already helped more than 4,000 families in New Mexico bridge the digital divide.

The two most important groups of people in a child’s education are their teachers and engaged parents, Martinez said. This week, she encouraged parents to visit the “New Mexico Reads to Lead!” website, http://www.newmexicoliteracy.org/ for valuable resources parents can use to help their children continue the learning process at home.

Martinez also announced Wednesday that she will propose $1.2 million dollars for the New Mexico Parent Connection, a web tool that will help teachers engage parents in their kids’ day to day school performance.
