Governor Acts On Legislation

Gov. Susana Martinez

STATE News:

SANTA FE — Wednesday March 9, Gov. Susana Martinez signed legislation helping the Department of Transportation to deliver high-quality road construction projects, at a lower cost, in less time.

House Bill 206, sponsored by Representatives Cathrynn Brown, R-Carlsbad and Lucky Varela, D-Santa Fe, and Senate Bill 215, sponsored by Sen. John Arthur Smith, D-Deming, will allow the New Mexico Department of Transportation to use design-build procurement for certain large, critical highway infrastructure projects.

This allows one company to design and construct these projects, saving valuable time, resources, and money, while further improving New Mexico’s roads and highways.

Additionally, the Governor signed three pieces of legislation relating to capital project spending in New Mexico. A lengthy message explaining Martinez’ actions on these bills can be found here.
