COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County staff announced today that there is a water leak in a pressurized irrigation line at the Los Alamos Golf Course.
The irrigation line, which serves the Golf Course south of Diamond Drive has been shut off and water trucks are being used to water the greens, tee boxes and fairways until irrigation service can be restored.
County staff will be running a camera through the irrigation line in an attempt to isolate the leak location and damage.
Once the extent of damage is assessed, the appropriate repairs will be made. If the leak cannot be accessed from either shoulder, a new irrigation line will be bored under Diamond Drive and connected to the existing irrigation system.
Pressurized grout will be injected in the vicinity of the leak to fill any voids and preserve the integrity of Diamond Drive.
Starting Monday, July 30, after the morning commute, traffic control will be in place on Diamond Drive in the vicinity of the leak.
The outside lanes of both northbound and southbound traffic will be closed and the bike lanes will be shifted inwards to provide a safe work zone for shoulder work.
If repairs can be made to the existing pipe, the work is estimated to take two to three days.
If a new pipe needs to be placed by boring under Diamond Drive, repairs may take up to six weeks due to the time it will take to obtain the pipe.
While waiting on the pipe, a smaller pipe will be run under Diamond Drive inside the existing leaking pipe to provide irrigation water to the south side of the Golf Course. County staff will work to minimize any disruptions to traffic on Diamond Drive, and minimal delays are anticipated.
Updates regarding any necessary traffic control will be included in the weekly Construction Updates issued to the media and via the County’s website Cone Zone subscribers.
