Girls Soccer Overpowers Highland, 6-0

Friday evening the Hilltopper Girls varsity soccer team played host to the Highland Hornets and came away with a 6-0 victory. The Hornets closely marked the Hopkins sisters, Emily and Katie, leaving junior Abby Schmalz open to do her magic. Abby assisted on goals by Katie Hopkins and on two of sophomore, Sienna Ahlers’s, three goals.

Katie Hopkins scored in the 6th minute to make the score 1-0. Sienna Ahlers followed in the 7th minute with an unassisted goal making the score 2-0. Next junior Maria Sandoval scored in the 32nd minute off an assist from defender Sophie Wood. The halftime score was 3-0.

Sienna Ahlers started second half scoring in the 59th minute off of Schmalz’s assist. Charlotte Leonard scored in the 73rd minute with a hard shot from 25 yards out making the score 5-0.  In the 77th minute Schmalz sent a beautiful cross to a waiting Sienna Ahlers for the final score of the game.

Today, the Topper girls travel to meet the Spartans in a district game at 1 p.m. in Bernalillo.
