COMMUNITY News:

Girl Scout Troop 10074 was honored with the Los Alamos Public Safety Association’s (LAPSA) 2022 Public Safety Award. 

LAPSA member and Los Alamos Deputy Police Chief Oliver Morris submitted the nomination in the category of Community Service for a project the Troop undertook to support members of the community who are homeless. 

Four junior members of Troop 10074 organized and executed the project by researching the needs of homeless people, establishing a budget, and assembling bags containing the needed items. Members worked with Immaculate Heart of Mary Church to make the bags available for community members to give out when they encounter a person in need. 

The project was completed in October and demonstrated community engagement, service, and leadership. 

“This project showed our community that our youth and future leaders can have a positive impact,” Chief  Morris said.

Troop leaders were presented with a plaque commemorating the achievement at LAPSA’s annual holiday banquet and awards ceremony.
