Get outside over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend by joining PEEC for the Los Alamos Turkey Trot or a #OptOutside hike on Black Friday. Register for both events at peecnature.org. Courtesy/PEECPEEC also is hosting a #OptOutside hike at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23. Spend time in nature instead of fighting crowds in stores by joining Evan Rose for a hike on Pueblo Canyon Loop. This hike will begin at the Los Alamos Nature Center and participants will hike a total of 7.5 miles with an elevation gain of 1,800 feet. Participants should be prepared for a difficult hike and bring water, a lunch, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, good hiking shoes or boots, warm clothing and a waterproof shell. Attendees should plan to return at about 2 p.m. to enjoy an optional hot chocolate social at the nature center after the hike.
The #OptOutside hike is free for PEEC and Los Alamos Mountaineer members and is $5 for non-members. Registration is required and space is limited to 15 people. This outing was inspired by REI’s #OptOutside campaign, which urges individuals to spend time outdoors and away from the stores and computer and phone screens on Black Friday.
