FLAC News:

Los Alamos native and watercolor artist extraordinaire, Kathi Geoffrion Parker will teach this month at Fuller Lodge Art Center.

Geoffrion Parker’s life as a professional artist has spanned four decades including her 30-year career as a graphic artist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Since she was a high school student, Geoffrion Parker has either been running or participating in the Life Drawing Group at Fuller Lodge Art Center.  Now retired from the Lab, Geoffrion Parker is showing her work more widely.

In 2015, Geoffrion Parker was represented at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque and in the last two years, she was one of the featured artists on the Los Alamos Artists Studio Tour. She was awarded Signature Member status in the New Mexico Watercolor Society in 2004 and her watercolor paintings and drawings have been accepted into juried shows in New Mexico and nationally since.

“Why do I paint or draw? I have to,” Geoffrion Parker said. “Because when I don’t, I really, really miss it. My art balances out my life. It reminds me that there is a God. It’s an important gift that I shouldn’t ignore. Sharing my art is a joy.”

Although she is well known for her watercolors, Geoffrion Parker shares her talent in other forms of media as well. She has recently rediscovered her knack for scratchboard and has shown several pieces in exhibits at Fuller Lodge Art Center. Some of her small scratchboards will be available at FLAC’s annual Affordable Arts show, starting mid-November. She’s also incredibly gifted when it comes to rendering the human body.

Geoffrion Parker will share yet another of her gifts with the community-teaching. She will be passing on her ability to draw the human figure in her upcoming Figure Drawing Workshop at Fuller Lodge Art Center.

This workshop is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on two Saturdays, Nov. 12 and 19. Using both nude and costumed models, this workshop is oriented toward drawing the figure from observation, with an emphasis on composition, proportion, and anatomy of the human body.

The cost of this class is $80 plus a $28 model fee. To register for the class, call Fuller Lodge Art Center at 505.662.1635 to reserve your space.
