SANTA FE ― The Federal Highway Administration has begun repair work on Forest Road (FR) 263 in Gallinas Canyon on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest.
FR 263 and the E.V. Long Campground next to Gallinas Creek have been closed to the public due to severe damage from monsoonal flooding in 2013. The repair work on both FR 263 and the campground is expected to continue for the next three months.
The closure order for the road and campground was put in place for public health and safety and the short-term protection of resources. Although public traffic is prohibited on FR 263 during the repair, private landowners and recreation residence owners will have access to their property.
Contact the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District at 505.757.6121 in Pecos or 505.425.3534 in Las Vegas for more information on the Gallinas Canyon repair work.
