Friendly Rivals Face Off In Dodgeball At High Noon

Chamber News:

Last year a new element was added to Chamberfest – The Showdown at High Noon. This competition pits two friendly groups against each other in an entertaining competition at noon right in the middle of Central Avenue.

Del Norte Credit Union sponsors the Showdown at High Noon and provides not only the equipment for the competitors but also kid-friendly versions for the spectators who get to join in the fun after the initial competition is done.

This year, since it is the 20th Anniversary of Chamberfest, the 1996 Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has challenged the 2016 LACDC/Chamber Board to a dodgeball fight.

Dodgeball is a game in which the main objective is to eliminate all members of the opposing team by hitting them with thrown balls, catching a ball thrown by a member of the opposing team, or forcing them to move outside the court boundaries when a ball is thrown at them.

At High Noon Saturday, June 11, 1996 board members Roger Waterman (TRK), Emily McGay, Cheryl Sowder (The Finishing Touch), and Don Taylor (Don Taylor Photography) will take on a team of 2016 board members led by Dist. 43 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard.

Del Norte Credit Union will be providing soft foam balls to spectators who want to join in after the first round.

Last year’s Showdown at High Noon was a water balloon fight between the County Council and local business owners.

Unfortunately the event was rained out. Weather for this year’s Chamberfest is predicted to be 82-degrees with a 50-percent chance of late afternoon rain showers.
