Friday’s Los Alamos High School Cross Country Home Meet at the Los Alamos Golf Course started with beautiful weather, but then a massive thunderhead built over Pajarito Mountain, causing a nearly two hour lightning delay after the first race (Girls JV).

In the end, all the high school races got off before dark, but unfortunately the Elementary School Mile – always a crowd favorite, had to be canceled.

The LAHS Varsity Girls won, beating 2nd place Cleveland 53 to 63 (XC is scored by adding the finishing places of a team’s first five runners – low score wins). Class 5A competitors St. Pius and Albuquerque Academy took 4th and 5th, respectively.

The LAHS Varsity Boys finished 2nd, significantly behind 1st place Albuquerque Academy, 43 to 88.  History suggests it will be a lot closer at the State Championship on November 7. The top individual ‘Toppers were Hayden Walker in 10th and Sophia Galvez in 3rd. The LAHS JV Boys won and the JV Girls took third.

The ‘Toppers will next compete at the District Championship Saturday, Oct. 31 at Del Norte High School.
