Freedom Church Los Alamos News:
The party gets started December 13th and runs through Christmas day. Freedom Church Los Alamos is hosting a virtual “12 Days of Christmas in Los Alamos” and the entire community is invited.
“It’ll be different this year, but celebrating the birth of Jesus in 2020 doesn’t have to be dull. That is for sure!” said Pastor Mike Brake, lead pastor at Freedom Church in Los Alamos.
A Time for Fun
The events will be hosted entirely on Facebook, Direct Link: https://www.facebook.com/events/377761059997072. Each day throughout the event, Freedom Church will unlock one of 12 daily ‘gifts’, like scavenger hunts, a Nativity Escape Room activity for kids, a Cookie Recipe Exchange, and a ‘Surviving the Holidays’ grief support group, just to name a few.
Most days will include prizes and giveaways. Some will happen over the course of the 12 days, while others will happen completely within a 24-hour period. More details can be found at www.ChristmasInLosAlamos.com
A Time for Giving Back
Freedom Church also will be giving away at least $10,000 to the Los Alamos community during the 12 days.
“One hundred persent of that will go directly to Los Alamos residents in need, local small businesses and non-profits, and some to contest winners,” Pastor Mike explained. “We’re excited to be able to offer a ‘Christmas in Los Alamos Care Finder’ during this season at www.ChristmasInLosAlamos.com/carefinder where event participants can submit requests on behalf of families, individuals, or small businesses in the community. We’ll work together with them to help meet that need. It’s truly a community building exercise where if you see a need, you can meet that need!”
Since March, Freedom Church has given more than $18,000 to local residents in financial need due to the lockdown and income loss, including help with groceries, paying rent and utilities, unforeseen essential repairs such as replacing tires, and plenty more.
One leader at Freedom Church noted, “I wish I could share more vividly the amazing emotion of gratitude in the eyes of those getting a gift of love that is completely unconditional with no strings attached. No religion pushed on them, no obligation to repay or even check out Freedom Church. Just a helping hand in a time of need. It has been an honor to talk and meet with these folks, listen to their stories in detail, help them feel validated and not ashamed as much as possible, then pass on a gift that came from the generosity of the people at Freedom Church.”
A Time for Encouragement & Building Community
The 12 day event will also consist of several Facebook livestreams with messages of hope, a retelling of the account about the birth of Jesus, as well as inspiring stories of life change.
Pastor Mike further expects that, “People who participate in any of these planned online activities are going to find hope. In what has been one of the hardest years of our lives, you can find help and encouragement this Christmas season. You can even have some fun, and you don’t have to do it alone.”
Freedom Church in Los Alamos has been meeting entirely online since the lockdown of COVID-19, which began back in March. The Facebook livestreams that happen at 5:30 p.m. each Sunday are very active and engaging for anyone who participates.
One church member said, “The mental/spiritual battles during this pandemic are huge. It’s why I’m so thankful to have the relationships I have at Freedom because I don’t have to face these battles alone. I can open up, share, and find encouragement to keep taking my next steps.”
Freedom Church does everything they can to provide a low-pressure environment where you will feel welcome.
“So many people don’t feel like they belong, or that they have value,” Pastor Mike said. “We want to make people feel welcomed and valued.”
