FB4K News:
Free Bikes 4 Kidz New Mexico, a local non-profit organization on a mission to provide bicycles to all individuals in New Mexico who wouldn’t otherwise have access, will host a series of fall used bike collection drives in Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
The first drive is happening 2-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 28 in Los Alamos.
The organization hopes to collect several hundred bikes of all shapes and sizes, including trikes and bike clothing.
Los Alamos and Española community members are encouraged to bring outgrown or used bikes and balance bikes to the following location:
- Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (IHM), 3700 Canyon Road.
“Our dedicated FB4K team, along with hundreds of volunteers, will spend the next 3 months cleaning and refurbishing, ensuring they’re in top mechanical condition for their future owners,” Free Bikes 4 Kidz New Mexico said in a press release announcing the Fall Bike Donation Drive.
This marks the fourth year that Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos will be hosting this community driven event, an effort led by Los Alamos’ own Living Treasure Cheryl Pongratz.
“Throughout fall and early winter, we’ll distribute these bicycles to underserved communities through our partnerships with schools, social service organizations and other youth serving non profits,” the organization said.
“Just go sign up online.” A link on the organization’s home page allow any eligible school or non-profit to sign up for an allotment of the completed bikes. More than 50 partner organizations have taken advantage of this service to date, with more then 2,600 bicycles given away in New Mexico so far.
Additional donation drop off dates are planned Oct. 6 at Century Bank in Santa Fe and Nov. 2 at Trek Bicycle in Albuquerque.
Volunteers interested in cleaning, repairing or helping in other ways should visit the organization’s website at www.fb4knm.org.
