‘Forecasting For Life After Work’ 6 p.m. Thursday

UWNNM News:

Individuals nearing retirement are invited to attend “Forecasting For Life After Work” 6-7 p.m. Thursday, July 23 in the 2nd Floor Conference Room at the Los Alamos Research Park.

Did you know that it is forecasted that approximately 1,300 people would be retiring from Los Alamos National Laboratory alone. On top of that, according to the 2000 census projections, by 2030 New Mexico will move from 39th in the nation to 4th in the percentage of people older than 65. That is a lot of people who need to plan for the many dimensions of retirement including what to do with all that free time.

“This generation got no destination to hold. We are volunteers of America” – Volunteers, by Jefferson Airplane. Those of a certain age will recall these Jefferson Airplane lyrics as a call to action, though for a different period and place. Even with the passage of time and through a lifetime of changes, the desire of baby boomers to make an impact on the world has not diminished.

Retirement is no longer about the hammock or unending hours of golf. It is a period of rejuvenation, second chances and renewed growth. For many, this new phase includes contributing their time and talents to an organization in need. The United Way of Northern New Mexico (UWNNM) invites you as a retiree (or almost) to make a meaningful impact and stay engaged in our community.

“The United Way of Northern New Mexico really looks for opportunities to bring people together with the right resources for mutually beneficial relationships,” Executive Director Kristy Ortega said. “We look forward to helping you find a good match to meet your volunteer needs!”

In addition, UWNNM’s partnership with The Foundation for Financial Wellness, a non-profit organization, will offer an opportunity to learn more about financial wellness through a behavior-based curriculum. Ben Bouman is a local investment advisor representative with the FINRA designation of CFWE (Certified Financial Wellness Educator). He is an active member in the community and is graciously donating his time in collaboration with the UWNNM.

During this time, Bouman will speak on planning for retirement. By the end of the class you should be able to identify your income needed for retirement, identify sources of retirement income, and calculate the gap. Each participant will have the option to take advantage of a complimentary one hour consultation with Bouman, a $150 value.

RSVP to kristy@unitedwaynnm.org no later than Monday, July 20. Space and seating is limited. For further information, contact Kristy Ortega at 505.663.3891 or kristy@unitedwaynnm.org.
