YMCA News:

Los Alamos Teen Center kicked off its new Fitness Team by participating in The Family YMCA’s annual Firecracker 5K Fun Run Saturday, July 4. Team members, including both teens and staff, trained for 12 weeks in preparation for the event.

“Seeing everyone out there being supportive and encouraging you to cross the finish line was very motivating,” said Adriana Ortiz, a rising junior at Los Alamos High School. “It was nice to see the community come together. This is a great direction for the Teen Center.”

The Fitness Team will continue at 5 p.m. each Wednesday with group walks, tennis outings, yoga and more. All teens are welcome. Membership to Los Alamos Teen Center is required to participate, membership is free; registration packets are available at the Teen Center.

As the Teen Center gears up for the big move to the newly renovated Community Building in August, program planning for new offerings as well as current program expansions are underway. To be a part of the ongoing conversation or share ideas for teen programs, contact Los Alamos Teen Center Director Sylvan Argo at sargo@laymca.org or call the Teen Center at 505.500.8073.
