Cyclists aged 18 and under are invited to attend the first Pajarito Trail Fest Youth Mountain Bike Race Saturday, Oct. 23.

The Pajarito Trail Fest Youth Mountain Bike Race is a 9-mile cross-country mountain biking competition presented by Southwest Nordic Ski Club, Los Alamos Youth Mountain Bike Team and Pajarito Mountain.

“We’re thrilled to welcome competitors to Los Alamos and encourage all interested youth to take part in this race that will be scenic, challenging and fun,” County Marketing Manager Kelly Stewart said. “We hope all will come out to the event to celebrate these talented young competitors.” 

With varying courses, based on age, the race features singletrack and doubletrack trails for riders.

Registration for the event is free and closes at 9:45 a.m. the day of the event, with the race beginning promptly at 10 a.m. from the Pajarito Mountain lower parking lot. All competitors will receive a swag bag.

“For those coming in from out of town, we encourage you to stick around after the race and enjoy some of the incredible things to see and do in Los Alamos,” Stewart said. “Explore the three National Parks that surround Los Alamos—Valles Caldera National Preserve, Bandelier National Monument and Manhattan Project National Historical Park—take a historic walking tour, visit one of our interactive museums, or stop by that Los Alamos Nature Center. With fun for all ages, there’s something for everyone to discover in Los Alamos!”
