Fire Reported Between Espanola and Chimayo

FIRE News:

Crews from Santa Fe County are responding to a fire reported at 6 p.m. today in the bosque between Espanola and Chimayo that has burned more than two acres.

Crews report the fire is crowning in the cottonwood trees and burning dense salt cedar undergrowth near Mile Marker 6 at Road 76 in the Chimayo area at the Rio Arriba County line.

Structures are threatened and evacuations have been reported in the area, possibly for a two-mile radius around the fire.

No shelter information has been released at this point, but residents are being told to head south, according to fire officials, and to expect congested roadways in that area.
