Final Dark Night Of 2024 Tonight At Spirio Soccer Fields

Pajarito Astronomers News:

Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.

Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields Saturday night, 11/02/24, at Overlook Park in White Rock. This is the last Dark Night for 2024.

Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 7 p.m. until about 10 p.m.

Early in the evening, Saturn will be an exciting target with very narrow rings. Later, if the sky is clear, Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS could be an interesting object viewed through a telescope. The Fall constellations of Pegasus, Andromeda, Aquarius, Pisces and Cetus will be near the meridian and Cassiopeia will be high in the North. Bright objects of interest at this time of the year are globular clusters M15, M2 and M30, open clusters M52, NGC 457, the double cluster in Perseus, and the famous Andromeda galaxy M31.

This event will be held weather permitting. Updates will be posted at Pajarito Astronomers on Facebook.
