Santana tribute band Smooth performs Friday for the final concert of the 2021 Los Alamos Summer Concert Series presented by Toyota of Santa Fe.
The concert is co-sponsored by SMSI and Merrick. Española Latino band Divino will perform at 6:30 p.m. as the opening band. The Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association will perform as the student opening act and the Family YMCA will conduct pre-concert Zumba dance warm-ups. The fun starts at 5:45 p.m.
Smooth is a Chicano rock band that pays tribute to the godfather of Latin/African Rock, Carlos Santana, as well as other artists in that genre. Before his passing in 2015, Raul Rekow, who was conga player, or conguero, for Santana for more than 40 years, said this about Smooth: “Everett Lovato and his band mates from the Smooth Santana tribute band kill it every time. I want you to be blown away by these musical brothers and their talents as I was from day one when I heard about them.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Smooth to the 2021 Los Alamos Summer Concert Series lineup,” Sancre Productions spokeswoman Monica Griego said. “Smooth is our first tribute band to play in the Los Alamos Summer Concert Series lineup and we are thrilled to showcase their musical talent to the Los Alamos Summer Concert Series audience. SMSI and Merrick are returning sponsors who have sponsored both virtual shows and live shows since 2019. We are excited to celebrate this last concert of the 2021 series with SMSI and Merrick who have always supported bringing dynamic and highly entertaining bands to Los Alamos.”
This final concert of the series will include food vendors recruited by Los Alamos County as well as poured and packaged alcohol in the New Mexico Craft Beverage Garden by Santa Fe Spirits. Additionally, the United Way of Northern New Mexico will host the Live United Row, an exhibit of nonprofit and community partners serving Los Alamos and the greater northern New Mexico region. Series presenter Toyota of Santa Fe will be featuring all new 2021 Toyota cars, trucks, and SUVs at the concert exhibit pad near the Justice Center.
