Fidel Lee Gutierrez of Santa Fe, New Mexico was born in Las Cruces, NM in 1962 and died after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, on his birthday, in 2013 at the age of 51. He was a beloved son, grandson, husband, brother, uncle, friend, banker and leader in the community.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elie S. Gutierrez, paternal grandparents, Felimon Sr. and Louisa Gutierrez of La Cordillera, NM, maternal grandparents, Alberto and Mary Jaramillo of Belen, NM, brother, Simon Gutierrez and nephew, Jorge Lane.
Fidel remains survived by his mother, Grace J. Gutierrez of Santa Fe, NM, his wife, Gina Imprescia of Santa Fe, his former spouse, Carolann Gutierrez (Larry) of Republic, WA. and three brothers and two sisters, Benjamin (Alice) of Los Alamos, NM, Pablo (Mary) Gutierrez of Rockledge, FL, Joaquin (Melinda) Gutierrez of Los Alamos, NM, Leah Gutierrez Wier (Patrick) of Placitas, NM and Sylvia Gutierrez of Santa Fe, NM, and three nieces and six nephews.
Fidel graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1980. He attended UNM, UCLA and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from NMSU in 1985. He worked for Bank of America in Redondo Beach, CA, Citizens Bank in Las Cruces, NM, United NM Bank in Albuquerque and 26 years for Los Alamos National Bank (now known as Enterprise Bank & Trust). At the time of his death, Fidel was employed as a Senior Vice-President at Los Alamos National Bank and oversaw the successful construction, openings & operation of three LANB branch offices in Santa Fe.
Fidel was recognized for his extensive community and civic involvement. He served as an officer and member of many community organizations including: Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Los Alamos, Santa Fe Children’s Museum, First Tee of New Mexico, Girl’s Inc., Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, City of Santa Fe Economic Review Committee, Tierra Contenta Corporation, Lensic Performing Arts Center, The Life Center Foundation and numerous others.
Established in 2014, the Fidel Lee Lifetime Fund supported by the Fidel Gutierrez Memorial Golf Tournament wishes to thank the Santa Fe small businesses, banking institutions, volunteers, individuals, friends and corporate sponsors for their generous contributions which have honored Fidel’s memory and continued to benefit youth organizations throughout New Mexico, after his death.
